Facade
We all have our insecurities, parts of us that will always be vulnerable and raw. But those parts, will always be the parts we hide from the world. It could be because you're ashamed of them or because theirs something worth hiding, but you know the real reason?
It's because you're scared. It doesn't necessarily have to be this, but in the end, after boiling it down, we can chalk it down to a fear. We're insecure about leaving ourselves exposed to the world. We're insecure about atrophying the confidence in ourselves when people judge us for our opinions. We're insecure about so so many things, but in the end, we can chalk it down to fear.
So what do we do in answer to that fear that's calling our names? We build. We build walls, borders, limits, dams, doors, all to keep that beautiful, unique opinion locked up inside of us. It doesn't have to be an opinion, it could be an experience, an event, an emotion, a suspicion, anything really. It doesn't matter if you're the smartest person in the room, or if you're the Grade-A bitch who exudes confidence from the click click of your 6-inch heels to your glossy red lipstick. You have something to hide, and it doesn't matter what it is or why you're hiding it. But you have something. Don't you?
My inner voice always asks me these questions. Is this where we've come to? Where we can't even say "hey" to a person of the other gender without sparking rumors? Where we can't voice out our opinions because the Mean Girls in the group think that your so-called shitty opinion is worthless? Why? Where have we come to? Can we ever go back?
To the place where we're happy. To the place where we can breathe. To the place where everything around isn't just a facade.
