When To Let Go

It is so curious the way certain people just resonate with you. It is an endless flow of energy that adds to yours, takes you higher than ever before. How flawlessly they blend; there is nothing to adjust! So comfortable you feel, there is no fear to be  fully you.

But there are also people who deplete you. Being around them is a constant tension, a fear of messing up. People who lack empathy and do not know the word compromise. People who like to take more than they give. People who you feel do not justify the amount of effort you put in.

I used to feel guilty thinking about all these things. I always told myself I should be more compassionate and understanding. Now I have learned that it's okay to be selective. It's okay to let these people go, that it's ok to tell them goodbye. Not everyone is meant to be in your life.

There are also people who start as one thing and end up, over time, transforming into something else. It is also ok to let these people go, bid them farewell and be on your own way. Their purpose in your life is done. Retaining them past that time will only turn something that was meant for good to something toxic. Sometimes they don't know how to let you go and it must be you who must depart.  Do not feel guilty. You are doing both of yourselves a mercy.  Knowing when to let go and saying goodbye is something no one tells you you need to learn, but it is something that it is essential to knowing how to love both yourself and others.
